Toni’s consideration of the whole space and optimum flow of this major renovation, resulted in an elegantly sophisticated yet unpretentious kitchen design. A full height wall and partial dividing timber panel were carefully positioned to provide enough privacy to the entry and living spaces yet allow the owner easy connection for communication with each other and visitors.
This kitchen achieved a Highly Commended award at the 2009 NKBA event.
The timber panel form playfully slices through the wall while the Quartz benchtop likewise slices through and interlocks with the panel.
Toni designed the media unit using the same palette yet by finishing it in gloss, achieved a more glamorous effect. The timber panel slides left or right to reveal the media appliances and to access 3 storage drawers tucked in along the upper edge.
Limited by the relatively small footprint of the kitchen, each cabinet was thoughtfully planned for optimum space utilization and best use of space.
The seemingly fixed lacquered panel in front of the barstools is designed to slide left behind the timber panel to reveal additional storage yet does not compromise the form of the panel. For this to operate, Toni configured the weighty dark panel to be suspended from the underside of the bench-tops with steel L-brackets. The mirror like kick board fascia below the timber panel enhances the illusion of suspension.
Fortunately, the owners contacted Toni soon after they had a renovation concept drawing. We were able to reconfigure the planned spaces to maximise flow, natural light balance and comfort. The kitchen room design also saved the clients several thousand dollars through not requiring significant structure to span & brace the large room.
